Get Your Instant QuoteHow Courier Pricing Works
Every South African courier — including GHVS — calculates your charge using the higher of actual weight or dimensional (volumetric) weight. This ensures pricing is fair for both dense, heavy parcels and large, lightweight ones.
Measure Your Parcel
Length × Width × Height in centimetres. Measure the outer dimensions of the box, including any bulges or protrusions.
Calculate Dimensional Weight
Divide the volume (cm³) by 5,000. This gives you the dimensional weight in kg. Compare this to your actual scale weight.
Pay on Chargeable Weight
You pay on whichever is higher: actual weight or dimensional weight. The fuel levy % is added to the base rate.

What Affects Your Courier Price?
Chargeable Weight
The higher of actual or dimensional weight. A 2kg parcel in a large box may be charged at 5kg dimensional weight.
Distance & Route
Cape Town to JHB is longer than Cape Town to George. Linehaul distance is the primary pricing driver.
Service Level
Economy (2–4 days) is cheaper than Express (overnight). Choose based on urgency.
Fuel Levy
A percentage added to cover fluctuating diesel costs. GHVS discloses this transparently on every quote.
Remote Area Surcharge
Applies if pickup or delivery is in a remote location (farms, small rural towns). Disclosed upfront.
Insurance
Optional item-specific insurance adds a small fee but gives you peace of mind for high-value shipments.
